The Jabiru Town Council comprises of seven elected Councillors chosen by the residents and one appointed by ERA (Energy Resources Australia). The Chair of the council is selected by the Councillors. The current Chair is Cr Ian Newnham and the Deputy Chair is Cr Donna Iddon.
Jabiru Council elections are held every two years.

Cr Ian Newnham was elected Chair of Jabiru Town Council on the 11 May 2007.
Ian is a member of the West Arnhem Shire Transitional Committee (WASTC) which is currently dealing with issues associated with Local Government reform/ amalgamation in the West Arnhem region and is also a member of the Alligator Rivers Region Advisory Committee (ARRAC).
Ian is also a partner in It's Kakadu, a store located in the Jabiru Plaza which sells a range of indigenous arts and crafts, homewares, electronic equipement, music and dvd rentals. He has a lifetime work history in management and also maintains an ongoing interest in it as well as travelling and the Kakadu region.

Cr Donna Iddon was elected Deputy Chairperson on the 11th May 2007.
Donna represents Council on a number of committees including the West Arnhem Shire Transitional committee (WASTC), Local Government Association of the Northern Territory (LGANT) and as Treasurer for the NT Branch Australian Local Government Women’s Association (ALGWA).
Donna is also a committee member of Mahbilil Festival committee, Welcome to Jabiru committee and Jabiru Ladies Day Luncheon committee.
Donna has lived in the Northern Territory since 1960 and has been a resident of Jabiru since June 2002. Donna works for the CharlesDarwinUniversity and lectures in Information Technology, Business, and Literacy and Numeracy.

Cr Ralph F Blyth has been a long term resident of Jabiru since 1982 and was Chairperson of Jabiru Town Council until 11th May 2007 when he stepped down and continues as a much valued Councillor today.
Cr Blyth is currently involved with the Transitional Committee for the new West Arnhem Shire and is also a representative on the Local Government Advisory Board working through the transitional process of Local Government reform through the Northern Territory.

Stephen has been a resident of Jabiru for 24 years. He came to live in Jabiru East in 1983 with his wife Jane, who was pregnant with the first of their three daughters at the time. Over the years Stephen has volunteered in many community projects such as helping to build the Go Cart Track and BMX Track and installing the lights on the Magela Oval.
While living at Jabiru East, Stephen worked for a small maintenance construction company called CMC for five years before opening his own business, then called Steve’s Plumbing. After a couple of years Stephen decided to get into a more diverse range of business and started Kakadu Contracting with a business partner in 1990. Stephen enjoys fishing, gardening and all aspects of the outdoor lifestyle of Jabiru.

Shane has been a resident in Jabiru for 6 years. He was born and bred in Alice Springs, but has also travelled all over the country. He is a first time Councillor appointed in May 2006, but his main passion is teaching aboriginal culture. While he moved around Australia it gave him the opportunity to give and receive the knowledge of his experiences. Currently Shane is working at JabiruAreaSchool, as the Aboriginal/Islander Education Worker.
Shane is married and has three boys, Shane Jr, Cameron and Jarred. He also has one grandchild Tekishya. He enjoys outdoor activities such as fishing, camping, travelling, playing sports, cricket, and soccer and also enjoys teaching his children indigenous art and craft. His hobbies include making trophies and cooking a mean barbeque.

Cr Christopher Suitor has been an elected member of the Jabiru Town Council since 3rd July 2007.
Cr Suitor and his family have been residents of Jabiru for 4 years. He is currently employed with Energy Resources of Australia at the local Ranger Mine as a Field Engineer Supervisor in the Technical Projects team. During his time in Jabiru he has been involved as an Auxiliary Fire Fighter in the Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service and as a volunteer Ambulance Driver for the Jabiru Community Health Centre.
Interests include involvement with Jabiru Pistol Club, fishing, camping and exploring the surrounding World Heritage listed KakaduNational Park. He also has a strong interest in the sustainable economic and social issues that affect Jabiru as a community.
